Studied physics and astronomy in Jena (1982 – 1987), teacher at a special school for mathematics, science and technology in Leipzig (1987/88), from 1988: scientific assistant at the University Observatory and the Astrophysical Institute of the Friedrich Schiller University (FSU) Jena (1993: PhD on "Modeling polarization in circumstellar dust shells using the Monte Carlo method"),
Research fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg (1995), research associate at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn (1997), research associate in the research group Didactics of Physics and Astronomy at the FSU Jena (1997–2003), research assistant at the Astronomy Museum at the Sonneberg Observatory (2004), habilitation on the topic "Models and Experiments - Bridges to ideas and knowledge of astronomy" (2005), research assistant at the State Academy for Continuing Education and Personnel Development at Esslingen Schools ( 2005-2009), since 2010: HdA employee
